Autumn Leaves

Autumn has set into our gardens. Summer is gone, and those brightly stunning colourful effects will sadly be missed. Nevertheless, autumn brings in a myriad of opportunities for your gardens, so that you can have a choice of maintaining, or even rejuvenating your garden for that ‘new season’ look. Let’s take a look at what we can do;

It’s a great time to use an organic mulch such as mushroom compost and dynamic lifter to get that last spurt of growth before the cooler weather sets in.

Fertilise the lawn with a good quality lawn food—slow release is fantastic as it releases over a period of six to
eight weeks and will not leach away and damage our waterways.

Cut back old flower spikes of summer flowering perennials (such as Salvia and Campanula) to encourage dormant buds to shoot.

General cleaning up of heat affected plants like agapanthus, spent flowers and yellow leaves.

Keep a look out for caterpillars!
Roses and hydrangeas are very prone to Mildew. Try spraying them with Triforine.

Autumn can still be a terrific season for that good flush of colour. Such include frangipani, bauhinia, begonia, dahlia, hibiscus, blue butterfly bush and of course, roses.

Japanese wind-flowers are also a favourite in autumn gardens. Flowers should be emerging now. However, keep a watchout for snails and caterpillars.

Daffodil tips: In order to extend the flowering effect, try building up a layered effect in your pots. Begin from
the bottom by placing one row of daffodils, and then covering it with soil. Repeat until the pot has filled over. Plant with viola or pansies too, for that extra effect.

Hope that’s been a bit of help! Matthew D. Hattam

"We knew we wanted a Mediterranean garden but had no idea where to start. Employing Matthew Hattam was the best decision we ever made. Not only is he such a talented professional and genial person to work with, he listened to our ideas as well."

We have recently had some landscape work done by Matthew Hattam of Garden Culture. The garden was entirely remodelled and replanted.
This involved the formation of a semi sunken pond, partially lined with rocks, and the installation of drip irrigation system regulated by computerised unit. Some paving was laid and levelling of the area to be lawned was required.
We are completely satisfied with all the work, which was completed to a high standard, and we have accepted a proposal for further work to be done by Garden Culture.

Yours sincerely

Jonathan and Rosemary Allin.

Hi Matthew

Hope all is well with you. It was good to have your Landscape Manager here on Friday to switch on the rest of the irrigation, therefore the complete watering cycle will commence tomorrow morning. Also your Garden Maintenance Manager went through the general care of the new plants e.g. watering, fertilizing, pruning which is all important information in order to care for my new "babies". Your landscape manager is returning within the next day or two to connect up my courtyard pots to the watering system and to shape small bushes at the front (on the side).
We are very happy with our new garden and look forward to sitting back and watching it grow to its full potential!
Here from you soon, Thanks

Tina and Charlie.

It’s my pleasure to write in support of Garden Culture. I recently engaged their services to renovate my roof top garden and found them to be extremely reliable and professional in their approach. The quote I received was clearly laid out with all aspects of the job costed and explained.
I’m extremely happy with the results and wouldn’t hesitate to use Garden Culture again and have already recommended them to several friends.

Best Regards,

Vivienne Henderson
