The demands to save water has been met by Matthew Hattam | Garden Culture PTY LTD | creating water efficient gardens and assisting clients with valuable knowledge whilst installing "WATER SAVING" Tanks.

Underground tanks have many options that may or will not be explained by installers. Hands on knowledge that we have learnt from such installers may confirm many questions you have before installing. Typically Matthew Hattam and the TEAM will advise using the correct combination of plants, while still being able to create a garden that is lush and verdant. Tanks apart!

Garden Culture recognised by the Landscape Association of South Australia and the A.B.C.

Awards of Excellence won for Innovations whilst designing and developing a garden in SA's low rainfall environment.

Medindie garden rejuvenation is one for all seasons and all occasions.

With sweeping lawns, lush plantings, soothing water features and shady secluded hideaways, the garden has undergone an extensive rejuvenation over the past five years.

Embarked upon under the expert guidance of Matthew Hattam of Garden Culture, the project has taken the original garden scheme from pleasant to spectacular.

“This is a signature property and this is a lush, grand English-style garden in keeping with the home’s era,’’ Matthew says.

“There are formal and semi-formal areas and while the garden was in good health and there was nothing dreadfully wrong with it, it needed a facelift.’’

Working closely with the property’s owners, Matthew first undertook extensive consultation and research on suitable plantings and the owners’ personal preferences.

The first step was to improve the soil quality and re-work the structure of the original garden - Placing great importance to install Genuine Netafim Irrigation Drip Lines. We support Reece Irrigation to quote, supply and be general good advisers with all aspects of Irrigation & Garden Lighting.

The next stage involved redesigning particular areas of the garden and introducing new plantings in keeping with the property’s historic ambience.

Some large overhanging trees were removed and other trees and shrubs transplanted elsewhere in the garden.

With the wide range of floral plantings in the garden, as Matthew says, “there’s always something going on, no matter what the season’’.

The large tracts of lawn, trees and shrubbery ensure a rich mix of greens, while the impressive array of flowering plants, including camellias, roses, gardenias, azaleas and hydrangeas, bring an uplifting burst of colour.

Matthew said the owners had some colour preferences, including blue, white and yellow, but were open to many of his ideas.

“It’s always great working with a client who’s trusting and willing to consider something new,’’ he explains.

“I’ll work in whatever way the client needs. We do garden designs and plans from scratch, or as in this case, we can work with no design at all but instead workshop ideas and discuss concepts.

“To undertake a rejuvenation project like this one, it’s best done over time so that you can watch it all evolve – there’s no need to rush it.’’
